This year, Empire/Liberty is offering home and business owners going solar a rebate of $0.25 per watt. So, for example, if you purchase a 5KW solar energy system, Empire/Liberty will pay you a rebate of $1,250. If you purchase a 10KW solar energy system, Empire/Liberty will send you a rebate check for $2,500. And to clarify, this is a check that they send directly to you – you are getting paid from your electric company for going solar!
How Can I Qualify For This Rebate?
The Empire/Liberty solar rebate is an amazing opportunity for those on the Empire/Liberty electric grid. In order to qualify for this solar rebate from Empire/Liberty, you must be a customer in good standing. Under the guidelines of the rebate, you must also purchase and own solar energy panels that you intend to have permanently installed on the premise for a minimum of 10-years.
Empire/Liberty requires systems to be connected to the grid via its Net Metering Program. This program takes your excess power and sends it back to the grid to be stored. At the end of each month, you are then able to earn money, in the form of credits, back from the electric company for the excess power that your solar produced.

This credit can pay for the panels themselves, installation, cost of labor, and even tree removal. You only have until December 31, 2019 to install your system in order to file for a credit at this rate.
After this year, the Federal Tax Credit will decrease to 26% percent for solar energy systems installed in 2020 and 22% for those in 2021. After 2021, businesses will be able to file for a 10% credit, while homeowners won’t be able to file for credit at all.
